Trapping Hogs

Three Tips for Trapping Hogs

If you’ve been trying to scare off the wild hogs that have been coming to your home, you may not be having the level of success that you’re looking for. Instead, why don’t you consider trapping hogs that may be causing you issues and damage? If trapping hogs sounds more like what you want to do, here are three tips that you can use in order to make sure that you get them in and out the first time.

Be regular with baiting. The baiting is a process that can take a couple of weeks (we explain why in the next step). If you’re baiting, make sure that you keep doing it on a daily basis. If you don’t, the pigs may not be used to the trapping area anymore and you may have to start the process over again. Being consistent will help the process go more quickly.

Don’t try to catch them on the first night. The first night is not the right time to catch the wild hogs. Some of them may be skiddish about the area that they’re in. Others may recognize that it’s similar to traps they’ve seen before, and therefore avoid it. If you try the first night, your chances of missing a few gets much higher, and we’ll talk about why that’s an issue in the next tip.

Make sure that you’ve got them all. If you don’t have all of the pigs that are causing you problems, you’re going to have even more problems. First, because they will come back and start causing you issues again. Second, they’re going to be a lot harder to catch. Pigs are intelligent creatures, and they’ll remember the traps, so they’ll be smarter next time.

So, as you can tell, trapping hogs is definitely a science. But, by making sure that you understand that science and are able to take care of the process without a lot of issues, you can get rid of those hogs that have been plaguing you for good.
